In life, we constantly make decisions. Sometimes they are everyday minor decisions that we hardly even register, as we make them mechanically. However, there are times when we have to make more challenging decisions, and it can be very difficult. Not only do we spend days making such decisions, but even after making them, we are still not sure if we made the right choice and we question them. We present you with a small guide on how to make difficult decisions more easily and avoid regretting them later.
FIRST Difficult Decision – Take Responsibility
Remember that nothing changes if nothing changes. Specifically, this means that nothing can change if we are not willing to change. If we don’t want change, we will simply be stuck in one place. When we keep postponing something, we are less successful today, and it also kills our potential for success tomorrow. The problem remains a problem today and tomorrow and always until we take responsibility and decide to change something about it.
SECOND Difficult Decision – Prepare Yourself
When a decision is tough, we often feel discomfort due to it, no matter how we decide, regardless of which side of the coin we choose. Therefore, we need to be realistic and see what resources we have. It is best to list what we need to make the best decision – what information we need and which people we can involve, who we can count on.
THIRD Decision – Reflect
Every decision usually has two sides, and in some cases, even more. Consider each of the possible scenarios and remember what each of them can bring you and what it can take away. It’s best to put everything on paper because that way you’ll have a better overview of everything.
FOURTH Decision – Break It Down
Break down the path to every decision into smaller steps and find out what you need to realize them. Remember that each decision is actually made up of several small ones that need to be realized beforehand for the big decision to work well.
FIFTH Decision – Set a Deadline
Once you’ve gone through all the previous four steps, we believe that you already have a clearer picture of which decision is best for you. Now that you already know what you’ve decided, the only thing left is to set a deadline for implementing your decision. Different decisions take different amounts of time, some more, some less. Try to set the most realistic time frame so that you don’t find yourself in a panic due to lack of time or the possibility of giving up because you’ve taken too much time.
When making decisions, don’t forget the following:
- Trust your intuition. We often find ourselves in situations where we don’t have much time to think, so we need to free our minds and trust what our inner voice whispers. Decisions made this way are often the best.
- Have self-confidence. Once you decide something, don’t go back and reconsider. Just keep going without looking back, even if doubt occasionally creeps in. It’s essential to be self-confident.
- Focus on the positive. You can’t expect everything to go smoothly because rarely does anything in life go exactly that way. Problems along the way are normal but focus on the good things you will gain by following your decision.
And don’t forget – change can be challenging and often it is, but most often, unpleasant changes lead to the best things in life!
